About RT Pottery

In an attempt to create pots that are uniquely me I found it necessary to look at my past, present and future and to reflect on that which gives me energy and the drive to create. It wasn’t long before I began making pots inspired by nature with a very practical application. I needed to make simple, beautiful, functional pots that people would share with family and friends for any occasion.
In designing my faceted wares I was looking for a mark that would liven up the otherwise ordinary rim line and create movement visually. After many trips through Muskoka I realized a fascination with the rock faces and irregularity of the sides of those huge rocks. What mesmerized me was how the sun affected each side and highlighted each line and each change in plane. Through my carving of the rim and the glazes that I have chosen I am able to achieve a hint of this natural kind of beauty which has led to the design of one of my signature lines.
Included in my line of wares is a leaf sprig design. This design was created to give life to the strong, tight forms that I naturally create. The leaf sprigs create a sense of whimsy while being functional at the same time. The leaves are each sculpted and attached to act as handles. In my current work I am using both techniques to make multiple pieces work together. The faceted wares play role as the ground for the complimentary leaf forms that are about to take flight. Working in this playful manner allows me to produce in volume while still creating a little story for myself to keep it interesting.
